OPEN SOURCE · BROWSER UTILITY

UNLIKEIT

A small browser tool I made because cleaning up years of your own Instagram activity is much more repetitive than it needs to be.

WHY I BUILT IT

THE NATIVE FLOW GETS OLD FAST

Select. Confirm. Wait. Repeat. Fine for ten actions. Pretty painful when you are cleaning up years of activity. UnLikeIt adds an on-page panel that helps with the repetitive part while keeping the user in control.

> ready

> user picks the scope

> action starts

> progress stays visible

> pause if the page complains

> user can stop anytime

THE INTERESTING PART WASN’T THE CLICKING

The useful design problem was how to make a long-running browser script feel understandable and interruptible instead of invisible and slightly terrifying.

Don’t hammer the page

Actions are deliberately paced. The goal is not “maximum speed”. It is a more conservative flow that can slow down or stop when something looks wrong.

Show what it is doing

The controls live on the page so status, progress and the current action are visible while the script runs.

Give people an off switch

Pause and stop controls matter. Automation gets uncomfortable very quickly when the only way to stop it is closing a tab and hoping.

WHAT I LEARNED

Tiny utilities still need product thinking. State, feedback, failure and trust matter even when the entire “product” is one script running inside somebody else’s website.

ALSO

If the platform says stop, stop. A personal cleanup tool is not worth turning your account into an experiment.

TRY IT YOURSELF

01. Manager

Install a userscript manager like Tampermonkey ↗.

02. Install

Load the script source into the manager. Read it first if you want. It’s open source for a reason.

03. Run

Open Instagram’s Your Activity area and use the panel to control the cleanup.

Use it like a grown-up

This is for your own account and is provided as-is. Platform behaviour changes. Review the source, use conservative settings and stop if Instagram reports an error or restriction.
